Terpene of the Month: Geraniol

Summer is officially here! With the heat, July also brings cookouts, campfires, beach days, and much more. Whether you’re looking for a refreshing citrus drink or trying to keep the mosquitoes at bay, turn to Geraniol, the sweet, floral terpene.

Geraniol is named after geraniums, from which most Geraniol is derived. In recent years, Geraniol has shown its presence in a number of strains. Even now, the number of strains with Geraniol is increasing.

Geraniol is known for its delicate rose aroma and sweet, fruity taste. In cannabis, Geraniol can be found in strains like Agent Orange, Harlequin, and Lemon G. Unlike in geraniums, Geraniol in cannabis has a softer touch than the citronella-like properties of geraniums.

In nature, Geraniol can be found in lemongrass, peaches, grapefruits, and oranges. Because of its citrus and floral palate, Geraniol is used primarily in the fragrance industry. Geraniol is also used as a food additive in pastries and desserts.

Geraniol may also have some potential health benefits. According to a 2015 study, Geraniol may have antibacterial, antiseptic, and anti-inflammatory properties. Another study conducted on rats found that Geraniol may have helped in managing diabetes and hyperglycemia.

Geraniol is a terpene that perfectly encapsulates the summer experience. From refreshing citrus to floral aromas and tastes, turn to Geraniol to make your summer great.
